Intentionally vacant space at the beginning of an occupation that is included in the space planning process to accommodate anticipated future growth.
Structural vacancy is intended to avoid the need to frequently relocate as and when the business grows. Rather than face the disruption and cost of relocation, some businesses choose to intentionally procure more space than they need (and hence carry more cost) so that if they do grow they can remain in the same space.
