Simulation creates a simplified model of a real situation and observes how it behaves; the better the simulation model, the more likely its forecasts will be replicated in the real world. There are analogue simulation models, for a example wind tunnel testing of architectural models, but today most simulations use computer-based mathematical models, for example weather forecasting models. For facilities managers who are planning workspace change, simulation can explore a wide variety of hypothetical situations, in contrast to surveys that are only possible in existing situations.
